I'm at the Lakeview Center for Psychotherapy at 3322 N Ashland Ave. My office is on the 3rd floor. There is a waiting room and public restroom.
My office is near the Brown Line Paulina stop. Paid parking is available on Ashland. You can usually park for free on Henderson, except after 6pm or if there's a Cubs game. I don't recommend using the Target parking lot next to my office. They frequently tow cars.
Sometimes. I recommend meeting in-person whenever possible.
I am part of PSYPACT, which means I can practice telehealth in PSYPACT-participating states.
Yes. I accept Aetna PPO, BCBS PPO, UnitedHealthcare & Optum PPO, and Medicare. I am in-network with some POS plans.
Prior to your first appointment, I recommend you confirm I am in-network with your insurance.
Most likely. Copays range from $5 to $50, depending on your plan.
Some plans have a deductible. This means you have to pay the full cost of therapy up to the deductible amount. After reaching your deductible, you are only responsible for the copay.
Yes. Some insurance plans provide reimbursement for out-of-network therapy. Often, they cover a portion of the cost.
When I work with someone out-of-network, I bill their insurance the cost of each session. Insurance reimburses me for part of what I billed and the rest is passed on to the patient. For example, if I bill your insurance $175 and am reimbursed $80, you will be charged the remaining $95.
I require everyone to have a credit card on file. After each therapy session, your card is charged the copay or whatever fee is due.
If you need to cancel, please email me or leave a voicemail. I require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations. I charge $100 for late cancellations and no shows.
I will work on a sliding fee scale in some circumstances. We can discuss the possibility over the phone.
The No Surprises Act is a federal law that went into effect on January 1, 2022. It was designed to protect patients from unexpected medical bills. I am required to provide a Good Faith Estimate to patients paying for therapy out-of-pocket.
Dr. Reed's Good Faith Estimate
Most often, I see patients for therapy once a week for at least six months. My rate is $200 for the initial evaluation session and $175 for each subsequent psychotherapy session. Consequently, the total cost for six months of treatment, including one evaluation session and twenty-three psychotherapy sessions, amounts to $4,225. In many cases, I see patients for longer than 6 months.
Disclaimer
This Good Faith Estimate shows the costs of services that are reasonably expected to address your mental health needs. The Good Faith Estimate does not include any unknown or unexpected costs that may arise during treatment. You could be charged more if complications or special circumstances occur. If this happens, federal law allows you to dispute (or appeal) the bill.
If you are billed for $400 more (per provider) than this Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill
You may contact your psychologist to let them know the billed charges are at least $400 higher than the Good Faith Estimate. You can ask them to update the bill to match the Good Faith Estimate, ask to negotiate the bill, or ask if there is financial assistance available.
You may also start a dispute resolution process with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). If you choose to use the dispute resolution process, you must start the dispute process within 120 calendar days (about 4 months) of the date on the original bill. There is a $25 fee to use the dispute process. If the agency reviewing your dispute agrees with you, you will have to pay the price on this Good Faith Estimate. If the agency disagrees with you and agrees with the health care provider or facility, you will have to pay the higher amount.
